Irini Piki is the Deputy Minister to the President since 1 March 2023.She studied Economics in the United Kingdom (BSc in Regional Science – Economics and Human Geography) at the University of Reading and went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics from University College London (UCL).
From 1997 until 2023, she served the Republic of Cyprus as a career technocrat in positions of responsibility, covering a wide portfolio including economic affairs, environment, regional policy, reforms and investments, as well as European affairs.
In December 2019, she was appointed Head of the Directorate of Strategy, Coordination and Communication at the Ministry of Finance. In March 2021, she was promoted to Economic Director, while from October 2022 she headed the Directorate of Economic Policy and European Affairs.
She has also served as a member of the Boards of Directors of Invest Cyprus (CIPA), the Research and Innovation Foundation, the Cyprus Organization for Standardization, and the Council of Economy and Competitiveness. In addition, she has represented Cyprus in a number of EU committees dealing with economic affairs and cohesion policy.
