The training seminar for authorized agents and betting premises employees, during this year’s Safer Gambling Week, will focus on the concept of safety, which has long been the basis for discussion on developing holistic and comprehensive public health policies to manage the harmful effects of problematic gambling participation. The meaning of safety itself, however, has acquired an additional meaning in the era of the pandemic, which seems to have a “transformative” effect on gambling behaviours and challenges.

This seminar raises awareness of problem gambling for professional sports players, academies and the sports industry, and promotes a responsible and safer attitude to gambling among this at-risk group. This seminar provides coaches and sports leaders with the knowledge and skills to screen for problem gambling. Youth and problem gambling - Educational seminar for parents, in cooperation with the Pancyprian Confederation of Parents

The meaning of safety itself, however, has acquired an additional meaning in the era of the pandemic, which seems to have a “transformative” effect on gambling behaviours and challenges. The seminar will begin with an introduction – presentation of international trends for the transition of responsible gambling to safer gambling and public health frameworks and policies that are becoming increasingly important and present in the debate about gambling. Then, the results of a nationwide survey on the attitude of the public towards gambling, and more importantly safer gambling, especially during and under the ongoing presence of the pandemic, will be presented to the participants. Lastly, the third and last part of the seminar will include a live poll (polling) among the participants to record the estimated impact of the pandemic on gambling behaviours and in general the turnover of betting premises. The poll will be followed by an open discussion on how betting premises experience the transformation of gambling challenges, especially in the light of the pandemic, and the day after for safer gambling.
